They definitely got the title right on this one -- as the album's a deep funk monster through and through -- easily one of the best examples of contemporary funk we've heard in a long long time! The liner notes are a bit sketchy on the details of the session, but apparently the tracks were recorded a number of years back in the UK -- with instrumentation that includes percussion from Snowboy, Hammond from James Taylor, and a whole lot more tenor, baritone, flute, guitar, and Fender Rhodes in the mix -- all captured perfectly in the studio with a gritty gritty edge that takes us back to the glory days of the Desco sound at its best! Noel McKoy sings a bit of vocals on the record, but the main focus is on the instrumentals -- tunes that burst out with a funky brilliance to match the best of the 70s funky 45 scene -- and with a freshness that gets past some of the too-staid deep funk combos on the market today. Titles include "Freedom Sound", "Night Theme", "Party People", "Fast Eddie", "Polariser", "Heavy Soul", "The Players Theme", "Soul Dynamite", "Shake & Hip Drop", "Back On The Streets", and "Get Ya Some".
