-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The only audience video recording of a Purple Rain concert in circulation.
Filmed from the extreme right hand side of stage the person filming has done a
pretty decent job considering their circumstances. The view is obstructed for a
fair amount of the recording by either the audience in front, or the giant riser
platform on the stage. The person filming does their best by repositioning the
camera between the audience members, or by standing up to get a better view. The
camera is rather shaky in parts, and at times there is audio with no picture.
The picture quality is also lacking in detail and tends to be rather fuzzy and
hazed. All that aside though, there are some excellent shots of Prince when he
is to the right of stage, or at the rear and the audio throughout is very good.
For instance the 'shower scene' has been filmed from a fantastic viewpoint, and
there are details which you can't make out on the pro-filmed recordings. The
show itself is short of the extraordinary, although it is a very enjoyable
Purple Rain gig. 'Baby I'm A Star' is a lengthy 25 minutes and includes a
portion of 'The Dance Electric' during the jam. Camera's in the mid 80's were
giant, hefty pieces of equipment so the person responsible has done a very good
job - no matter how frustrating the resulting footage is. The audio (same
source) is on 'Houston I'm A Star'.
